What you get
Quote walls, not floor area.
Wall area per room
Perimeter times ceiling height, less the openings you enter for each room. Ceiling area comes with it.Ceiling height per room
Set a default for the job (8 ft unless you change it) and override it for the 9 ft kitchen or the 10 ft great room.Gallons, your way
Coverage and coats are yours to set, 350 sq ft per gallon and 2 coats by default, with ceilings in or out.Drywall sheets
Walls plus ceiling, plus waste, divided by your sheet size: 32 sq ft for 4x8, 48 for 4x12.Measured from the drawing
PDFs keep their vector lines and set their own scale from the printed dimensions, so every perimeter starts from the architect's walls.Priced and ready to send

How it works
From the customer's PDF to gallons and sheets.
You start with
The customer's PDF plan
You end with
Wall area, gallons and sheets per room, priced
01
Open the plan.
Drop in the customer's PDF; each page opens as its own sheet. Images and phone photos of printed plans work too.
02
Check the scale.
PDFs scale themselves from the printed dimensions. Measure one more known dimension to see the error before you quote.
03
Find the rooms, then set heights and openings.
Press A to find every room. For each, set the ceiling height if it isn't the default, and the square feet of doors and windows: a 3 x 7 door is 21 sq ft, a 3 x 5 window 15.
04
Set coverage, coats and sheet size.
Choose ceilings in or out, enter your prices, and read gallons and sheets per room. Export the CSV or the PDF.
Worked example
Three rooms, worked through.
FloorFigures' defaults: 2 coats at 350 sq ft per gallon with ceilings painted, and 4x8 drywall with 10% waste on walls and ceilings. Openings are 21 sq ft per door, 15 per window and 6 for the small bathroom window.
| Room | Size, ceiling | Walls less openings | Ceiling | Paint | Drywall |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Living room | 16 x 20, 9 ft | 648 − 66 = 582 sq ft | 320 sq ft | 5.2 gal | 32 sheets |
| Bedroom | 12 x 14, 8 ft | 416 − 36 = 380 sq ft | 168 sq ft | 3.1 gal | 19 sheets |
| Bathroom | 8 x 10, 8 ft | 288 − 27 = 261 sq ft | 80 sq ft | 1.9 gal | 12 sheets |
| Total | 1,223 sq ft | 568 sq ft | 10.2 gal | 63 sheets |
Paint per room is (walls + ceiling) × 2 ÷ 350; the living room is (582 + 320) × 2 ÷ 350 = 5.2 gallons. Drywall sheets are rounded up per room. FloorFigures does the same for every room on the plan, for free.
Questions
What painting and drywall pros ask.
- How do I calculate wall area from a floor plan?
- Measure the room's perimeter on the plan, multiply by the ceiling height, and subtract doors and windows. A 12 x 14 room has a 52 ft perimeter; at 8 ft that's 416 sq ft, or 380 sq ft after a 3 x 7 door (21 sq ft) and a 3 x 5 window (15 sq ft). FloorFigures does this for every room from the plan's own lines.
- How much paint do I need for a room?
- Divide the paintable area by the paint's coverage, typically 350–400 sq ft per gallon, and multiply by the number of coats. 380 sq ft of wall at 2 coats and 350 sq ft per gallon is 760 ÷ 350 = 2.2 gallons. Add the ceiling area if you're painting it.
- How many sheets of drywall do I need for a room?
- Add the wall and ceiling area, add 10–15% waste, and divide by the sheet size: 32 sq ft for a 4x8 sheet, 48 for a 4x12. A 12 x 14 room with an 8 ft ceiling has 380 sq ft of wall after openings and 168 sq ft of ceiling; with 10% waste that's 602.8 sq ft, or 19 sheets of 4x8.
- Can I set a different ceiling height for each room?
- Yes. Set a default ceiling height for the job, 8 ft unless you change it, and override it for any room. Wall area, paint and drywall for that room then use its own height.
- Does FloorFigures count doors and windows automatically?
- No. Enter the square feet of openings for each room, for example 21 sq ft for a 3 x 7 door and 15 sq ft for a 3 x 5 window, and FloorFigures subtracts them from that room's wall area.
- Is it really free for contractors?
- Yes. There's no per-plan fee, subscription, account or watermark, and no limit on plans or exports. FloorFigures runs in your browser, so the customer's plan never leaves your device.
