What you get

Measure once. Shop with a list.

  • A photo is enough

Click the four corners of the plan sheet, or any rectangle you know the size of. FloorFigures straightens and scales the photo in one step.
  • Every room, measured

Click inside a room and it's traced to the walls, or press A to find every room. Or draw rooms yourself and type in the wall lengths.
  • Flooring, with waste and boxes

Square feet per room plus 10% waste, and boxes at 20 sq ft each. Change both to match the product you're buying.
  • Paint by the gallon

Wall area less doors and windows, at 350 sq ft per gallon and 2 coats, with ceilings in or out. Set the ceiling height per room.
  • Drywall and baseboard

4x8 sheets for walls and ceilings, and baseboard length for every room, with waste included.
  • A budget before you shop

Enter what you'll pay per square foot, gallon, sheet and foot of baseboard, and see the cost room by room.

How it works

From the plan in the drawer to a shopping list.

You start with

A floor plan, or a photo of one

You end with

A materials list and a budget for each room

  1. 01

    Find your plan.

Look in your closing documents or builder paperwork, or save the floor plan from your home's old listing. No plan? Start a blank sketch and type in the wall lengths you measure with a tape.

  2. 02

    Set the scale.

PDFs do it themselves. For a photo, click four corners of the sheet or a rectangle you know, or click both ends of any printed dimension and type it in.

  3. 03

Pick the rooms in your project.

Click inside each room you're redoing. If you're painting, set its ceiling height and the square feet of its doors and windows.

  4. 04

    Read the shopping list.

The takeoff shows boxes, gallons, sheets and feet of baseboard per room, plus cost. Export a CSV for a spreadsheet or a PDF to take to the store.

Questions

What homeowners ask.

How do I find the square footage of my house from a floor plan?
Check the plan's scale against a printed dimension, measure the outside walls one level at a time, and add the levels together. Leave out the garage and porches, and count a basement separately. In FloorFigures, open the plan and press Shift+A to trace the building outline without the garage and porch; the total is rounded to the whole square foot.
Can I measure my floor plan from a photo?
Yes. Take the photo as straight-on as you can, open it in FloorFigures and use perspective correction: click the four corners of the plan sheet or any rectangle whose size you know. The photo is straightened and scaled in one step. On our angled test photo, rooms came out within 1–2% of the drawing.
What if I don't have a floor plan?
Start a blank sketch sheet and draw each room with the rectangle or polygon tool, typing in the wall lengths you measured with a tape. FloorFigures then works out the areas and materials the same way it does for a plan.
How many boxes of flooring do I need for a room?
Multiply the room's length by its width, add waste (about 10% for a straight lay, more for diagonal or herringbone), and divide by the square feet in one box, rounding up. A 12 x 14 room is 168 sq ft; with 10% waste that's 184.8 sq ft, or 10 boxes at 20 sq ft a box.
How much paint do I need for a room?
Multiply the room's perimeter by the ceiling height, subtract doors and windows, multiply by the number of coats, and divide by the coverage on the can, typically 350–400 sq ft per gallon. A 12 x 14 room with an 8 ft ceiling has 380 sq ft of wall after one door and one window; 2 coats at 350 sq ft per gallon is about 2.2 gallons for the walls.
Do I need to sign up or install anything?
No. FloorFigures runs in the browser on a computer, iPad or phone. There's no account, no trial and no limit on plans, and your plan is never uploaded.
