Contractors and estimators
Residential takeoffs without the desktop software.
Open the PDF plan set in a browser tab, snap to the drawing's actual lines, and take off floor, wall and ceiling quantities room by room, at the office or on an iPad on site.
Free. No account. Plans never leave your device.
What you get
A residential takeoff in a browser tab.
Snaps to the CAD lines
PDFs keep their vector geometry. Clicks land on the actual wall lines, corners and intersections, with a 45° lock for clean runs.Scale from the dimensions
Reads dimension strings like 12'-6" or 3600 and scale notes like 1/4" = 1'-0" or 1:100, and warns when the note disagrees with the dimensions.Rooms in one click
Click inside a room to trace it to the wall faces, or press A to find every room, named from the text in the PDF.Quantities per room
Floor, perimeter, walls less openings and ceiling, then flooring, paint, drywall and baseboard, priced from your list.Exports that fit
CSV for your spreadsheet, DXF at true size in feet with a layer per area type, and a vector PDF report for the client.Office or site
Works the same on a desktop, iPad or phone, with pinch zoom and a magnifier for touch and Apple Pencil. Nothing to install.
How it works
From the plan set to a priced takeoff.
You start with
The customer's PDF plan set
You end with
Room-by-room quantities and a priced CSV for your estimate
01
Open the plan set.
Drop in the PDF. Each page opens as a sheet, and a sheet can hold several levels.
02
Confirm the scale on each sheet.
FloorFigures reads it from the dimensions and the scale note and checks one against the other. Measure a known dimension to see the error before you rely on it.
03
Measure.
Press A to find the rooms, or trace with the polygon and rectangle tools, typing exact lengths. Cut out stair openings and chases, and use the distance tool for linear runs.
04
Price it and export.
Set waste, coverage, coats, sheet size and your unit prices. Export the CSV to your estimate, the PDF for the client, or the DXF for CAD.
Compared with what you use now
Desktop takeoff software vs FloorFigures.
Commercial takeoff software does far more: counts, assemblies, every trade. FloorFigures is for residential work where you need rooms, areas and finish quantities from a PDF, without paying per plan or per month to get them.
| Desktop takeoff software | FloorFigures | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Paid, usually per month or per year | Free, no limits |
| Runs on | An installed computer app | Any modern browser, including iPad and phone |
| Snapping to PDF vector lines | Common | Yes |
| Scale from printed dimensions | Varies | Automatic on PDFs, with a check |
| Room detection | Varies | One click per room, or every room at once |
| Counts, assemblies, all trades | Common | No: areas, lengths and finish quantities |
| Curved walls | Usually supported | No |
| Team sharing and integrations | Common | No: export CSV, PDF or DXF |
Questions
What contractors and estimators ask.
- Is there free takeoff software for residential plans?
- Yes. FloorFigures is free with no limits. It opens PDF plans in the browser, snaps to the drawing's vector lines, sets the scale from the printed dimensions, finds rooms, and takes off floor, wall and ceiling area plus flooring, paint, drywall and baseboard per room. It doesn't do counts, assemblies or curved walls.
- Can I do a takeoff on an iPad?
- Yes. FloorFigures runs in Safari on iPad with pinch zoom and a magnifier for touch and Apple Pencil. Open the PDF from Files, measure, and export the CSV or PDF report. There's nothing to install.
- How does FloorFigures find the scale of a PDF?
- It reads the dimension strings printed on the plan, such as 12'-6", 3600 or 3.6 m, and scale notes such as 1/4" = 1'-0" or 1:100, then checks them against each other. If the note disagrees with the dimensions, which happens when a PDF has been resized, it warns you. You can also set the scale from any two points and a typed length.
- What can't FloorFigures take off?
- It measures areas and lengths and derives finish quantities from them. It doesn't count fixtures, build assemblies, handle curved walls, or read text from images (room names and automatic scale work on PDFs only). It has no accounts, cloud sync or integrations with other software.
- Can I export the takeoff to Excel or CAD?
- Yes. The CSV opens in Excel or Google Sheets with every room's quantities and cost. DXF export is true size in feet, with a layer per area type. There's also JSON, SVG, an annotated PNG and a vector PDF report.
- Are my clients' plans uploaded?
- No. Plans are opened, measured and saved in your browser on your own device. Nothing is uploaded, and there's no account.
