How it works
From plan to numbers in four steps.
01
Drop in any plan.
PDF, JPG, PNG, HEIC, even a photo of a printed plan taken at an angle. Multi-page plan sets open as separate sheets.
02
The scale sets itself.
FloorFigures reads the dimensions printed on the plan and works out the scale, then checks it against every other dimension it can find.
03
Rooms trace themselves.
Click inside a room and it's traced to the wall faces. Or find every room at once, named from the labels on the plan.
04
Numbers you can defend.
Gross living area by ANSI Z765-2021, with garage and below-grade space kept separate. Flooring, paint and drywall per room. A PDF report to send.

How privacy worksFeatures
Everything the plan can tell you.
Snaps to the real lines
PDFs keep their vector geometry, so every click lands on the architect's actual wall lines, corners and intersections.
Reads the dimensions
Printed dimensions like 12'-6" and scale notes like 1/4" = 1'-0" set and check the scale for you.
ANSI Z765 built in
Below grade, garages, open to below and ceiling height, all handled. Totals round the way the standard says.
Takeoff per room
Floor, walls less openings, ceiling, perimeter, flooring boxes, paint gallons, drywall sheets and baseboard, with your own prices for a cost estimate.

Tested against the drawing, not against a guess.
- 13 of 13
- printed dimensions agreed on the scale it found, on our sample architect PDF.
- <1 sq ft
- typical room error on that vector PDF, against the drawing itself.
- 1–2%
- typical room error from a phone photo of the plan taken at an angle.
Questions, answered.
- Is FloorFigures really free?
- Yes. FloorFigures is free with no limits: unlimited plans, projects, measurements and exports, including the PDF report, CSV and DXF. There's no account, trial, watermark or credit card. It runs in your browser, so measuring a plan costs us almost nothing, which is why it can be free.
- How do I calculate square footage from a floor plan?
- Open the plan in FloorFigures. On a PDF, the scale is set from the printed dimensions automatically; on an image, click both ends of any wall with a known length. Then click inside each room, or press A to find every room, and trace the outside walls for the total. By hand, the method is the same: confirm the scale, split the outline into rectangles, multiply length by width for each, add them up, and leave out the garage and anything below grade.
- Does FloorFigures follow ANSI Z765?
- Yes. Totals follow ANSI Z765-2021 methods: finished above-grade area is reported as gross living area; below-grade finished area, garages and unfinished space are kept separate; openings to the floor below are excluded; and the ceiling-height rules are applied. Totals are rounded to the whole square foot, and the report includes a statement you can copy.
- Can I measure a PDF floor plan online?
- Yes. FloorFigures opens single and multi-page PDFs in the browser, keeps the drawing's vector lines so measurements snap to the real walls, and reads the scale from the dimensions printed on the plan. The PDF is never uploaded.
- Can I measure a floor plan from a photo?
- Yes. Open the photo and use perspective correction: click the four corners of the sheet or any rectangle you know the size of. FloorFigures straightens and scales the image in one step. On our angled test photo, rooms came out within 1–2% of the drawing.
- Are my plans uploaded anywhere?
- No. Plans are opened, measured and saved inside your browser on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server, and there's no account to sign in to.
- What files can I open?
- PDF (including multi-page plan sets), JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP and HEIC photos from an iPhone. You can drop, paste or pick a file, or start a blank sheet and draw from field measurements.
- How accurate is it?
- As accurate as the plan it's measuring. On our sample architect PDF, the scale matched 13 of 13 printed dimensions and room areas came out within 1 square foot of the drawing. FloorFigures includes a scale check: measure any other known dimension and it shows the error before you rely on the numbers.
- Does it work on an iPad or phone?
- Yes. It runs in Safari and Chrome on iPad, iPhone and Android, with pinch zoom, a magnifier for touch and Apple Pencil, and layouts for small screens. Nothing to install.
