A free alternative to MeasureFloorPlan

FloorFigures vs MeasureFloorPlan: price, PDF handling, automatic scale, ANSI Z765 rules, privacy and exports compared, checked against their site.

Updated · FloorFigures

Short answer

FloorFigures does what MeasureFloorPlan does, for free: open a plan, set the scale, measure rooms and GLA, export a report. It also reads PDFs as vectors, sets the scale from printed dimensions automatically, finds rooms for you, works on iPad and phones, and never uploads your plan. MeasureFloorPlan charges $9 per plan or $29 a month, and keeps projects in an online account.

Price: free versus per plan

MeasureFloorPlan lets you try a sample plan for free, then charges to measure your own: $9 for one plan, $15 for 24 hours, or $29 a month for Pro, which is also the tier that adds per-room quantities. An appraiser measuring ten plans a month would pay $29 a month, or $90 at the single-plan price.

FloorFigures has no paid tier. Everything, including per-room takeoff and every export, is free with no limit, because the work runs in your browser instead of on a server. Here's why it can stay free.

Measuring PDFs: vectors versus images

Most architect and builder plans arrive as PDFs exported from CAD. Those PDFs contain the actual lines of the drawing. FloorFigures keeps them: every click snaps to the real wall lines, corners and intersections, and the printed dimensions are read as text. MeasureFloorPlan converts each PDF page to an image first, so measurements depend on where you click on the picture.

Scale: read from the plan versus set by hand

A wrong scale makes every number wrong by the same percentage, and PDFs that were resized or printed "fit to page" carry scale notes that are no longer true. FloorFigures reads every printed dimension it can find on a PDF, works out the scale from the ones that agree, and warns you when the scale note disagrees. On our sample plan, 13 of 13 dimensions agreed. You can then measure any other known dimension to see the error, and the PDF report includes that check. MeasureFloorPlan sets the scale from one wall you click and type in, or from a standard object such as a door, which they say is accurate to roughly 5–10%.

Rooms and ANSI Z765

In FloorFigures you can click inside a room to trace it to the wall faces, or find every room on the plan at once; on PDFs the rooms are named from the plan's labels. The totals apply ANSI Z765 methods: overlapping shapes are merged rather than counted twice, garages and below-grade space are kept out of gross living area, openings to the floor below are subtracted, ceiling-height rules are applied, and the total is rounded to the whole square foot with a statement you can copy. See ANSI Z765 explained.

Privacy

Appraisers, agents and adjusters often work with client documents. FloorFigures never uploads them: the plan is opened, measured and saved inside your browser. MeasureFloorPlan's privacy policy says files are uploaded to their servers when added. See how FloorFigures handles privacy.

Where MeasureFloorPlan is ahead

  • Cloud projects. With an account, their projects open from any computer. FloorFigures projects are saved in the browser on the device you used.
  • Team billing. They sell a three-seat team plan. FloorFigures has no accounts, so there's nothing to share or bill.
  • Support. They offer email support and live chat.

Switching

There's nothing to migrate: open the same plan file in FloorFigures. If you have a project you measured elsewhere, re-measure from the original PDF. On a vector PDF with printed dimensions, the scale is set as the plan opens and one click finds every room.

Questions

Is there a free alternative to MeasureFloorPlan?
Yes. FloorFigures measures floor plans in the browser for free, with no limit on plans or exports and no account. It reads PDF plans as vectors, sets the scale automatically from printed dimensions, finds rooms, applies ANSI Z765 rules and exports a PDF report, CSV and DXF.
How much does MeasureFloorPlan cost?
As listed on their pricing page on October 12, 2026: a free demo on a sample plan, $9 per plan, a $15 day pass, $29 a month for Pro (which adds per-room quantities) and $49 a month for a three-seat team. FloorFigures is free.
Which is more accurate?
Both are limited by the plan you measure. The difference is in how scale is set and checked: FloorFigures reads every printed dimension on a PDF, sets the scale from the ones that agree and shows the error on any other dimension you measure. MeasureFloorPlan sets the scale from one known wall or a standard object.
Does FloorFigures upload my plans?
No. FloorFigures opens and measures plans inside your browser and saves projects on your device. MeasureFloorPlan's privacy policy says files are uploaded to their servers.
When is MeasureFloorPlan the better choice?
If you want projects saved to an online account and opened from any computer, or a paid team plan with shared billing, MeasureFloorPlan offers that and FloorFigures doesn't yet. FloorFigures projects live in the browser you use.

Try it on the plan you'd have paid $9 for.

Open it in FloorFigures. If it measures the way you need, it stays free. No account, and nothing is uploaded.
